Male & Female

Accents:

These characters possess the dialects that depict African American culture, and tone.

Voice tone:

With the exception of any of the adult female character’s voices, all the female children voices should have a slightly soft tone – sometimes that tone will change, of course, depending on what’s happening during various scenes. Except for the adult male characters, whose tone of voice should be deep, the male children’s voices should sound less deep; not as consistently steady as perhaps an adult males voice.

Performance:

Pieces has the tone, feel and visual style of a semi-autobiographical story of the Black experience, an episodic coming of age story filled with drama, nostalgia, warmth, humor, and resilience in the face of trauma with a melodic tempo that drives the composition of each chapter.
The performance style should vary depending on what’s happening in the respective scenes.

SUMMARY

What if, at eight-years-old, you witness the life of someone you love most in the world be taken? Travel along with Jasmine (Jazzy) Piccolo Harper, a precocious and thoughtful little girl from the South Side of Chicago who is hiding a secret. As she attempts to live her life unaffected, after suffering an unimaginable and unspeakable loss. Pieces pays tribute to the humor and resilience found in coming of age surrounded by a loving community.

NOTES

For main protagonist Jasmine (Jazzy) Piccolo Harper, 8-13 years-old; for Jackson Harper, 13 -18 years-old; Buster Beaudreaux, 13. All other male and female character voices should be used interchangeably with voice actors.
